We are located in the Chicago area but we provide our services internationally both on location and remotely.

Our President, Patricia (Pat) Graves, heads a team of dedicated and highly skilled Realtime Writers. We believe that our "CART With A Heart" attitude helps set us apart from other CART and Captioning firms.

Corporate Information

Caption First is a privately held corporation that was founded in 1989 for the purpose of providing realtime captioning to local television affiliates so that regional news and special event programs could be made accessible to the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. Even though we were approved for a sizable grant from the Department of Education to offset some of the cost of this endeavor, the local television stations were not yet ready to embrace this new technology. We were forced to redirect our captioning efforts to a new market. We quickly found out that there is a tremendous need for CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) services. Instead of trying to reach the entire deaf and hard-of-hearing communities all at once through television, we started working with people on an individual and small group basis. We now provide CART at many different events including counseling sessions, meetings, teleconferences, seminars, classrooms and conventions.
